Film dari Reaching for the Moon (2013) bersinopsis Pada tahun 1951, penyair New York Elizabeth Bishop melakukan perjalanan ke Rio de Janeiro untuk mengunjungi Mary, seorang teman kuliahnya. Elizabeth yang pemalu diliputi oleh sensualitas Brasil. Dia adalah kebalikan dari rekan gagah Mary, arsitek Lota de Macedo Soares. Mary cemburu, tapi Lota yang tidak biasa bertekad untuk memiliki kedua wanita itu dengan cara apa pun. Segitiga abadi ini terjadi dengan latar belakang kudeta militer tahun 1964. Puisi-puisi Bishop yang mengharukan adalah inti dari sebuah film yang dengan indah menggambarkan fase penting dalam kehidupan penyair pemenang hadiah Pulitzer yang berpengaruh ini.
